Hoya Pubicalyx
For a no-fuss succulent vine, the Hoya pubicalyx (HOY-a pew-bih-KAL-iks) is one of those must-have houseplants. It produces beautiful fragrant flowers. The plant has deep green lanceolate leaves. Sometimes you even find the foliage decorated with greyish specks and purplish-gray stems.
You will agree that it is a beauty once the cluster of pink star shape blooms arrives.
Outside its native tropical setting, this climbing, flowering succulent vine can grow to a height or length of 8′ – 10′ feet. In the Philippines, it grows to be about twenty feet.
Basic Care
The Hoya plant thrives in bright indirect light when grown close to a sunny window. Another option is to grow them in natural sunlight or use artificial plant lights. Still, if you plan to plant them outside, avoid placing them in direct sunlight.
You can cover it with a shade cloth if you want to treat it as an outdoor plant to prevent the sun from scorching the flowers and leaves. To encourage the Hoya species to bloom, provide them with at least six hours of sun every day.
You should let your plant dry out between watering and then soak it thoroughly until the water drains out the bottom. The hoya needs to be moist but the roots cannot become waterlogged, or they will end up with root rot.
If your hoya gets more sunlight it will need more water and it will need less with less sunlight. It is common for a hoya pubicalyx to be watered twice a week in the summer and once a week in the winter, but it depends on the soil, temperature, and humidity.
